How to Browse Recipes
Finding, reading, and printing your favourite dishes
Finding Recipes
Click "Browse Recipes" in the navigation menu to see all the recipes in our family collection. Each recipe appears as a card with a photo (if one was uploaded), the recipe name, author, and category badge.
Simply click on any recipe card to open it and see the full details.
Using Search and Filters
At the top of the Browse page, you'll find a filter bar to help you find exactly what you're looking for:
- Search by name — Type part of a recipe name into the search box. For example, type "lamb" to find all lamb recipes.
- Filter by Category — Use the dropdown to show only recipes from a specific category, such as "British Classics", "South African Favourites", or "Baking & Cakes".
- Filter by Dish Type — Narrow it down further by choosing a dish type like "Main Course", "Dessert", "Starter", or "Soup".
- Click the "Filter" button to apply your selections. You can combine all three filters together!
Reading a Recipe
When you click on a recipe card, you'll see the full recipe page with everything you need to cook the dish:
- Hero image — A large photo of the dish at the top (if one was uploaded by the recipe author).
- At-a-glance bar — Quick info showing who wrote the recipe, cooking time, number of servings, plus the category and dish type badges.
- The Story — The history and memories behind this recipe, shown in a special highlighted box.
- Ingredients — A clear list on the left side of the page (or at the top on mobile) so you can check off what you need.
- Method — Numbered step-by-step cooking instructions on the right side (or below ingredients on mobile).
- Chef's Notes — Any extra tips, variations, or serving suggestions from the recipe author.
Printing a Recipe
Want a paper copy for the kitchen? On any recipe page, click the Print button at the bottom.
The page is specially formatted for printing — all the navigation, banners, and buttons are hidden so you get a clean, easy-to-read printout with just the recipe name, ingredients, and method.
